The brightness of the pink pepper combined with the citrus and lemongrass flavours of the combava dance together with the red fruits notes of the chocolate to create an refreshing moment.
The image is a portrait of a Betsimisaraka woman (“Many Lovebirds”). The Betsimisaraka form the largest group on the east coast of Madagascar, a region of great tropical rains, lush vegetation, and successive lagoons linked by the Pangalanes channel. The many trading posts have led local populations to develop export crops (vanilla, pepper, cloves, lychee, etc.). The traditional house is built from plant materials, including the “Ravenala” (or “Traveler’s tree”).
